The role of a Governor

As a Governing Board our core functions are

1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
2. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

St Mary's Governor's Vision

St Mary’s vision is to provide a happy, caring and stimulating education rooted in Catholic tradition.  Christ is at the centre of the school community and the Gospel values of love, service, compassion, respect, justice and reconciliation underpin school life.  It is a school where children recognise and achieve their fullest potential, in their academic, creative, personal, moral and spiritual development.  Our motto ‘be the best you can be’ is the overriding philosophy for everyone in our school community.

As Governors of St Mary's we aim to maintain and build on what sets the school apart from others. Every child in the words of Pope Francis is ‘a gift to be welcomed, cherished and protected.’ a responsibility we take very seriously.  The school prides itself on knowing every child and fosters pupils who are happy in their learning and feel part of this very special school community.

The Governors are proud to be associated with such a wonderful school and strive to serve it to the best of our abilities.  As a critical friend of the school we place a huge emphasis on academic excellence and in the education of the whole person and providing wide ranging opportunities for all.  Visitors are welcomed and each member of our school community; pupils, staff, parents and governors are valued and encouraged to contribute to the continued success of the school.
