(Text from Year 2 parent letter, also below as a PDF)

 Dear Year 2 parents,

What a beautiful, sunny week - I hope you have been able to spend some quality time together outside. Thank you to everyone who has continued to send work across to the office for me to see or through Purple Mash. I have loved seeing all of your work and it seems that many of your children enjoyed challenging themselves and others!) during our sports week.

This week we are thinking about children across the world and the importance of being welcoming to all. On the timetable there is a link, (Monday pm) to many resources suited to your child’s age group. If you go onto the Missio website, through the link, you will see the opportunity to click onto home-school learning and from there yr 2 children are in the KS1 age category. The reading for the week is based on these resources which will need to be read together for most children.

Miss Simmonds is continuing to give feedback to your child through Purple Mash - where there is a 2do set - so this is a great opportunity for your child to show a year 3 teacher what they can do.

The activities on the home learning timetable for week 12 are:

PE

In addition to the early starters and family walks, rides, runs etc it might be a good opportunity for your child to connect sport with data handling (the maths focus for the week). Each member of the family could see how many times they can bounce a ball, throw a ball into a container etc and then your child makes a tally of it. They could then extend this to drawing a simple pictogram or bar graph. The purple mash activities this week demonstrate this for them.

Reading

Thank you to everybody who is still listening to their child read as much as possible; this will make a big difference to them. There are still sites available such as www.freechildrenstories.com and the local libraries are running the summer reading challenge. We would like as many children as possible to join in with this. Books are available digitally. On the timetable I have also placed some wordy Missio tasks as the reading activities to share with your child.

Spelling

Please continue choosing words that your child cannot spell yet on the high frequency list or the common exception list. These are words that yr 2 children should be able to spell within their writing tasks if they are working at the year 2 standard. Extra words are: child, children, world, globe, continent, country, countries, everyone, everybody, include. You will notice that a fair few of these are common exception words.

Maths

This week we are focusing on data. Please see the Purple Mash activities.

Science

Another Maddie and Greg video for you this week with a focus on your body and mind. Keep up the good work you are producing from these videos.

ICT

I have put two more activities on for this week as I know how popular they are.

Art

Some of you have already made your sculptures as part of our DT project so I have put a link on the timetable for your child to try some of the art activities on the Tate for kids website https://www.tate.org.uk/kids/gallery. There are some great ideas there for you to try with your child.

Safety on the internet

I am very aware that your child is using the internet much more than they would ordinarily. At school we remind children before each lesson how to stay safe online. This is even more important now that we are exposing children to different YouTube links. Please ensure that you are working with your child when they are on YouTube to keep them safe. Many thanks.

I would like to reiterate, once again, that although I have timetabled the week please swap days and timings around to suit you and your family. Both the PE and the audio stories can be accessed at any time on the YouTube channels as can Purple Mash, Education City and TT Rock stars.

Keep up the great work you are doing, we all understand that it is not easy and fully   appreciate your efforts.
