Home Working Area Year 2 - 27th April-1st May 2020

Please find below the information for home learning for Year 2 for week 4 – 27th April–1st May. The home learning information and resources from previous weeks will remain available in the Year 2 Parent's Hub under the relevant week.

The Curriculum topic web for your year has been added as a resource this week for your information and they have been uploaded to the Curriculum hub as well.

Take a look at the new videos and photos from Mr Dailey, our DASP PE Specialist under the PE hub, lots of ideas for physical activities you can do at home. If you would like to send any videos, photos of what your children are doing with their PE to Mr Dailey/Mrs Fearn, please send them to the school office email.

We also have information from the Dorset Reading Partners/links to authors reading stories, how to read at home for fun, under a new Reading at home hub.

Dear Year 2 parents,

Thank you for your continued support. I can see that you are all doing a great job with
many children completing the education city work and Purple Mash activities. Please
do them at your own pace and give yourself and your child lots of breaks and praise!
The activities on the timetable for week 4 are:

PE
See Joe Wicks’ YouTube channel for a great daily workout for the whole family. If
your child can only manage part of it, that is fine, but it is a good way of waking them
up! If you fancy a change of pace there is a “Cosmic yoga” YouTube page which is
worth a try.

Reading
We are continuing to use Purple Mash and Education City in year 2. The latter,
children can mainly do independently but with the Purple Mash most children will need
some adult help with the reading.

Spelling
Please continue to alternate the high frequency words and the common exception words
at some point during the week - both of which are an important part of year 2
learning. Please carry on taking 3 or 4 words a day from the common exception
list/high frequency list and play spelling games with your child. On the parent hub there
are examples of different ways to explore this E.g. bubble writing, rainbow writing and
sand tray writing. Your child can also write “Silly sentences” using 2 or 3 of the words. As you are aware, I have included the spelling lists and the alphabet sheet in the year 2 file to help your child with the formation of their letters. I haven’t put a specific slot on the timetable but see if you can fit it in when your child is not too tired. ** Please look at Jules Daulby’s YouTube for spelling lessons. You could add some topic words such as: Fossils, reptile, beaches, coastline - and for a challenge: Ichthyosaur (Mary Anning’s discovery).

Maths
Please continue to encourage your child to complete the maths activities. With Purple mash your child can choose their level, with Education city it is levelled for your child and TT rockstars is the same for all. Please let your child use objects to help them with the activity such as dried pasta or Lego.

TT Rock Stars (times tables)
Please continue learning the tables with your child. These games are quick paced.

Writing
For Tuesday’s activity please do not panic!! If you put “Mary Anning video” into your search engine there are many to share with your child and to recap on yourself before the interview. Please remind your child to write in complete sentences and give them time afterwards to check that what they have written makes sense. They can check their spellings against the high frequency list and the common exception word list.

We are very grateful for all of your hard work and support at this unprecedented time.
I would like to reiterate that although I have timetabled the week (as some children like this structure) please swap timings around to suit you and your family. Both the PE and the audio stories can be accessed at any time on the YouTube channels.

Many thanks

Mrs Bourne and the Year 2 team
