Dear Year 2 Parents,

Another fantastic week of work from year 2. Thank you to everyone who has sent work across to
the office for me to see or through Purple Mash. I have loved the marine aquariums and the
beginnings of new sculptures - wonderful work.

Miss Simmonds is continuing to give feedback to your child through Purple Mash - where there is a
2do set - so this is a great opportunity for your child to show a year 3 teacher what they can do.

This week is dedicated to sport with a virtual sports day set - I can’t wait to see how you get on.

The activities on the home learning timetable for week 11 are:

PE
In addition to the usual morning starters we have the virtual sports day with fun activities for you to
try with your family. All the best!

Reading
The reading activities last week were building up to your writing task this week. Please use books in
your home or those online (www.freechildrenstories.com) to help your child explore story problems
and their solutions.

Spelling
Please continue choosing words that your child cannot spell yet on the high frequency list or the
common exception list. These are words that yr 2 children should be able to spell within their
writing tasks if they are working at the year 2 standard. Extra words are topic based - sport, athlete,
athletics, Olympics, challenge, sprint, sprinter, jump, jumper, medal.

Maths
This week we are focusing on measures to link with our sporting events (In addition to ongoing
multiplication). I have placed a range of activities onto Education City - some year 1 and some year
2- so that your child can choose the one that is best for them. Practical measuring during your
family sports day would be great too.

Science
Wow! - What brilliant work some of your children did in response to the Maddie and Greg video in
last week’s Science lesson. I love the marine aquariums. This week we are concentrating on bodies
to link with our sport week. Have fun with it and please send photos through to the office if you
would like me to look through them.

ICT
I have put two activities on for this week as I know how popular they are.

Safety on the internet
I am very aware that your child is using the internet much more than they would ordinarily. At
school we remind children before each lesson how to stay safe online. This is even more important
now that we are exposing children to different YouTube links. Please ensure that you are working
with your child when they are on YouTube to keep them safe. Many thanks.

I would like to reiterate, once again, that although I have timetabled the week please swap days and
timings around to suit you and your family. Both the PE and the audio stories can be accessed at any
time on the YouTube channels as can Purple Mash, Education City and TT Rock stars.

Keep up the great work you are doing, we all understand that it is not easy and fully appreciate your
efforts.
