Dear Year 2 parents,

How colourful some of your children were last week and I can see that there was a lot of learning about children around the world. Thank you to everyone who has continued to send work across to the office for me to see or through Purple Mash.

This week we are thinking about how we keep ourselves safe, both on the internet and off. On the timetable there is a link to many activities suited to your child’s age group via purple mash.

Miss Simmonds is continuing to give feedback to your child through Purple Mash - where there is a 2do set - so this is a great opportunity for your child to show their Year 3 teacher what they can do.

The activities on the home learning timetable for week 13 are:

Keep going with that daily exercise, whichever one you and your family enjoy!

This week’s daily reading tasks are on Purple Mash where your child has a daily chapter to read on Ned and the jungle animals with a follow-on task.

Please continue choosing words that your child cannot spell yet on the high frequency list or the common exception list. These are words that yr 2 children should be able to spell within their writing tasks if they are working at the year 2 standard. Extra words are: safe, safety, compute, computer, body, bodies, internet, password, protect, stranger.

This week we are focusing on problem solving. I have put 2 sessions in for Education City so your child can choose which learning screens and activities to do. They may need support thinking about the maths they are doing (e.g. is it adding, subtracting etc?) and objects to help them to count.

I have put two more activities onto purple mash - I can see that scores are going up with these activities so keep up the good work.

Please carry on with your sculpture if you haven’t finished it and if you have you may want to squeeze some other art activity into your week using the art activities on the Tate for kids website https://www.tate.org.uk/kids/gallery. There are some great ideas there for you to try with your child. I haven’t timetabled it in but please feel free to explore.

Safety on the internet

At school we are very aware that your child is using the internet much more than they would ordinarily. At school we remind children before each lesson how to stay safe online. This is even more important now that we are exposing children to different YouTube links. Please help your child to work through the ICT safety activities put on the timetable this week so that they are reminded of the many ways that they can keep themselves safe.

I would like to reiterate, once again, that although I have timetabled the week please swap days and timings around to suit you and your family. Both the PE and the audio stories can be accessed at any time on the YouTube channels as can Purple Mash, Education City and TT Rock stars.

Keep up the great work you are doing, we all understand that it is not easy and fully appreciate your efforts.
