Dear Year 1 Parents,

Here’s the home learning for week 3! I hope that you are all happy and keeping well. Remember it is a guide and needs to fit in around your day at home. If you want more to do, there are follow on tasks to keep you busy!

Joe’s 8 minute workouts are there to help start the day. I’ve also added Cosmic Yoga to the morning workout. I have been looking at your wonderful work on purple mash. It’s not only a great way for me to check and see how you are getting on, but also for me to write back to you too! So, look out for my comments and feedback.

Phonics

This week is slightly different. Each day watch Mrs Hunns tutorial on the sound of the day, just click onto the link and it will take you straight to her video. Then log onto purple mash. I have made a spelling quiz each day for you to do focusing on that sound. On Friday it’s common exception words! There’s an activity on Education City followed by a common exception word spelling quiz. I hope you enjoy them!

Guided Reading

There are new RWI guided reading books for you every week.  Over the week read them 3 times, starting with the speed sounds, green words, red words and then the text. Then answer the questions to talk about.

Maths

We’re moving onto measuring weight this week. Click onto the blue link - measuring weight on the template. This will take you to the White Rose home learning website. Select week one then lesson 1, it is right down at the bottom of the page. Click the play button on the screen, this is a tutorial to watch, then click get the activity to do. If you can’t print out the sheet, write the answers on paper. Then check by clicking get the answers (at the end!). On Tuesday go to lesson 2, Wednesday - lesson 3 & Thursday - lesson 4.

SCIENCE

My broad bean is not growing, so I’m going to try again this week. I will let you know how I get on! This week on Purple Mash please complete the 2do - growing and changing. Drag a picture into each box to show the different stages of growth. If you click on the green cross in the right-hand corner of each box, a selection of photographs come up that you can use too. Then type a sentence in the box below each picture to describe each stage of growth. Please try to do this independently. Use the topic words on the left-hand side of the page to help you. Don’t forget a capital letter and full stop. Read back your sentences carefully to make sure they make sense.

HISTORY

This week in History we are going to learn about the Tolpuddle Martyrs. They lived a very long time ago in the 1830s really near to Dorchester! Life was really hard then and farm workers were poor. A group of workers were so poor they didn’t even have enough money to feed their families. Isn’t that awful? The workers got together to see if they could go to the landowner together and ask for more money. They formed a group to help each other. The landowner was really cross and thought they were trouble. Read the story of the martyrs on the PDF attached, you might need a grown up to help you read it and then answer the questions about the story.

RE

Read the PDF document - when Jesus died. Then write words describing what and who you are missing. Draw and write your thoughts in the thought & speech bubbles.

DT/ECO

This week reuse your recycling by making it into a mini golf course! You could use cups, tubes, bottles, anything you have to hand. Don’t forget to make a hole for your ball to go! If you don’t have a kid’s golf club improvise by using something else, maybe a broom! I’d love to see what you have created.
