Dear Year 1 Parents
Thank you for continuing to support your child at home and sending in your wonderful
photographs, it is really lovely to see how you are getting on.
Here’s the home learning for this week. The plan is, as always, a guide and needs to fit in
around your day at home. See the follow-on tasks for more!
Something a little different to start your day - a morning dance workout. There is a
warm-up, different exercise dance routines and a lovely relaxing warm down at the
end. I thought it would be good to put it on each day, so that the children could get
familiar with the dance routines. I hope you enjoy them.
I’m really impressed with the work you are sending me on purple mash. It’s not only a
great way to see how you’re getting on, but a great way to communicate with you too and
I think nearly everyone is getting the hang of it now. Don’t forget to click ‘hand in’ after
you’ve completed a task and look out for my comments and feedback.
Phonics
Watch Mrs Hunns phonics video, click onto the link to her YouTube video. Then log
onto purple mash using your login details. Do the 2do spelling quiz each day as a
follow-on activity, focusing on the sound you have just learnt. On Friday it’s compound
words. There’s a learn screen on Education City followed by a compound word spelling
quiz. I hope you enjoy them!
Guided Reading
There are new RWI guided reading books for you this week. Over the week read them 3
times, starting with the speed sounds, green words, red words and then the text. Then
answer the questions to talk about.
Maths
This week we’re returning to number relationships - number bonds, part whole frame and
fact families. As before click onto the blue link on the plan, which will take you to the
White Rose home learning website. This week, start with week 2 lesson 5 on Monday,
week 3 lesson 1 on Tuesday, week 3 lesson 2 on Wednesday, week 3 lesson 3 on
Thursday and week 3 lesson 4 on Friday. Watch the video. After this, print out and
complete the activity sheet or answer in your workbook if you can’t print out the sheet.

maths activities - see the PDFs below.
SCIENCE
Explore your garden or the area outside your home. What plants do you recognise there?
Can you name any of them? As you really liked the pairs game on purple mash, I have
made a plants pairs game for you! Click onto the PDF - matching plant pairs. Print out
the sheet and cut the cards muddle and play with a partner or on your own. Practice
counting in 5s by awarding yourself 5 points for a pair and an extra 5 points for naming
the plant correctly! If you’re playing with a partner, the highest score wins! If you can’t
print them out, then you could have a go at making some of your own.
DT/LITERACY - Tuesday
Watch my video of how not to make a sandwich! It is very important to follow
instructions isn’t it?
Log onto purple mash and go to the 2do the wrong sandwich and try to order the
pictures correctly.
DT/LITERACY - Wednesday
Make a sandwich and while you make it, say/write the instructions for each step. Then
log onto purple mash. Go to the 2do - how to make a sandwich. Write the instructions
next to each picture and use the word bank and checklist to help you. Don’t forget to read
back your writing to make sure it makes sense!
RE
Watch the Lego video explaining Pentecost. Then see the PDF- Pentecost, ask a grown
up to read it with you and then look at the activities and choose one to do.
ART
Watch the YouTube video on how to make a flip book. Then have a go at making your
own!
FOLLOW ON ACTIVITIES
PHONICS
Choose 3 words from the spelling quiz and write a sentence for each.
SPELLING & HANDWRITING
Choose a few new words each day and practice writing them by starting and finishing in
the right place. If you’re not sure where they start and finish, have a look at the letter
formation sheets to help you. Can you challenge yourself to spell them without
looking? Super challenge - can you write them into a sentence in joined up handwriting?

MATHS
Look at the PDF below showing reasoning question slides on multiplication for you to
try to solve!
