Blog January 2018

Week 15-19th January 2018

Well done to Louisa for being our Citizen of the Week this week. You showed great determination and perseverance whilst getting changed for PE!

This week in phonics we have learnt the ay and ee sound and we have been practising reading words with the sound and writing words. Can you find any words with the ay & ee sounds at home?

In Maths we have focused on counting and recognising teen numbers. We have come up with some counting tips such as point to the object you are counting and put large quantities into lines for easier counting. To help at home see if you can complete the maths challenge on Tapestry.

Our Topic- On the Farm is giving us lots of opportunities to learn about different aspects of farm life. We have written What am I? riddles for our buddy to solve and we have been learning the story of The Little red Hen.

Lots of children have been completing the classroom challenges this week and it is very exciting to have given so many Move Ups! Keep it up everybody :-)

Next Week: 22nd January at 5:30 we will be having a meeting for all reception parents to attend. It will be an informative session regarding phonics, reading at home, maths and our new workshops we will be doing.
Hope to see you there!

Thanks
Miss Libby
Week 22nd-26th January 2018

Thank you to the parents who were able to make the meeting on Monday, I hope you found it useful and will put into context the workshops when they begin. Parents you will receive a letter today with the upcoming workshop dates and information about a small outing we are going on next week. (More details below)

Well done to Astin who is our Citizen of the Week, I have really been really impressed with your growing confidence when reading. Keep it up!

In Phonics this week we have been doing 2 jobs; learning the igh- fly high sound and working on our independent blending and segmenting of CVC words. To help at home practice doing this, breaking up words verbally preparing to spell them. In Literacy we have been learning the story of the Little Red Hen and creating our story map. Today we are performing it to the whole school in assembly.

In Maths we have begun learning about subtraction using the Singapore Bar, Miss Libby has to say, so far we are subtraction superstars! To help at home practice taking away from a group of objects such as 9-5= to really challenge yourselves maybe start with a teen number.

In Topic this week we have learnt about the parts of a tractor. This is in preparation for Tuesday next week. We are going on a little trip to the SMARTs John Deere tractor shop to have a look and climb on all of the new tractors.

Next Week: our trip will be on Tuesday around 9:30-11:30. Please can the children wear welly boots to school that day as well as bring good waterproof coats in case it is raining.
Miss Libby would really appreciate some parent help on this trip so if you are able to come please speak to me.
