Blog December 2017

27th November - 1st December 2017

We have been discussing Advent this week and what Christians do to prepare for it. We have also been singing our Nativity songs to prepare for our Christmas performances. Some of you probably know the words already to a few!

The children have been looking at Christmas stories and compiling a list of books that they like reading which will be sent to you over the next few days. They are learning the story of The Gruffalo's Child and will be using this as a base to write their own stories next week. All stories will be shared with a Reception friend in the final week of this term. It would be helpful to discuss words and phrases that your child likes in stories so that they consider their words and phrases in their own story writing.
Thank you so much for your continued support and I have already noticed some very helpful comments in the home reading link books.

We look forward to seeing your child at 5.00 pm on Monday 4th to listen to some bedtime stories. They can wear their PJ's and bring a small teddy if they would like.
4th-8th December 2017

Thank you to everybody who supported the bedtime stories on Monday late afternoon and who came to the Carol Service on Tuesday evening. Both events were a great success and are helping the children to understand how people prepare during Advent. In RE we have been talking about the meaning of Advent and what we do in this special preparation time. There have been many accounts from the children of Christmas trees, beautiful lights and decorations going up! The decorations that you helped the children to make in the home learning look wonderful in the classroom so thank you.
Rehearsals for the Nativity are up and running with Yr 2 children trying hard to learn the songs. I hope that you are able to make the performance that your child is in. If you are unsure as to whether your child is performing on Monday 11th or Tuesday 12th please ask at the office.
Next week the children are going to be sharing their story with a reception friend and have been working hard to finish it this week. Next week is all about presentation so any handwriting practice at home would be very welcome.
