Blog April 2019

Week 1st-5th April 2019
In Forest School this week we made some delicious flat breads with chocolate dipping sauce. We mixed the ingredients and shaped the bread, we then cooked them on our fire, SCRUMMY!
In Math's this week we have been learning how to count in groups of a given number. We had dinosaur nests and eggs and had to find out how many there were altogether.
In Literacy we have been learning how to write instructions for digging fossils. We thought carefully about the equipment we would need and the different stages of carefully unveiling the fossil.
This week we filled up our glass bead jar and got to go to the park as a special treat! We had great fun playing together taking it in turns to go on the swings and slide.
Week 23rd-26th April 2019
Welcome Back!!
Our new topic is In The Garden, we will be learning all about different creatures we might find and the plants that grow in our familiar habitat.
We have been busy creating our own mini beasts on the computer learning how to click with the mouse and move it across the screen with control.
We have enjoyed lots of imaginative play pretending to be insects visiting the garden and in the mud kitchen making delicious muddy treats.
In Math's we are learning about money and the different values coins have. we have begun to learn how to count 2p, 5p, and 10p coins. We then used our money to buy things in the garden centre.
Well done to lots of children who have achieved their reading certificate for fantastic reading at home!!
Week 29th April - 3rd May 2019
This week we had some exciting guests for us to observe and investigate...Tadpoles! We loved having them in the classroom and enjoyed trying to spot any that had little legs. We found out about the life cycle of a frog in preparation for our Focus Story 'The Tadpoles Promise'.
We have enjoyed exploring the instruments this week singing songs about creatures in the garden and exploring the sounds mini beasts might make and which instrument sounds similar. We had a lot of performances on the stage!
In Forest School this week we made some delicious Raspberry and Mint tea, picking the mint from our greenhouse. We explored the smell and taste of the mint as well as finding out about the plant itself.
In Math's we have been exploring counting in tens and our number bonds to 20. To support your child's learning at home keep working on their number bonds. (More information at this terms parent workshops)
Week 6th-10th May 2019
In PE we have been preparing for Sport's Day and learning about the races that we will be taking part in. This week we have learnt about a section of the obstacle race where you have to put a bean bag on your head and run as fast as you can without dropping it.
Lots more practice required but a great start!
In Forest School we went on a mini beast hunt and found out about the different habitats we have and who might live there. We talked about how not every habitat is suitable for all mini beasts and that when making our own mini beast habitat we have to think carefully about who we want living there.
We then gathered some natural materials and made these fantastic habitats!
